Fireman William Alfred Taylor formerly of Cowes Fire Brigade passed away on 6 September 1956 aged 72.

William was a slinger and rigger at J.S. White's for over 30 years and retired only twelve months before his death.

In his younger days he served in both the Royal Navy and Royal Engineers and followed this with membership of the pre-WW2 Cowes Fire Brigade.

William passed away suddenly when working his allotment in Moor Green Road. His funeral service was conducted at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, 17 Victoria Road followed by internment at Northwood Cemetery. The service was attended by past and serving members of the fire brigade, J.S. White's, the British Legion, the Shipwrights and Ship Constructors Society, the Wheatsheaf, the Commercial Inn and staff and children of Parklands Children's Home.

Rest in peace Fireman Taylor.
