Fireman Percy James Sheath was killed by enemy aerial bombardment on 3 January 1943.

Percy, of 14 Caesars Road, Newport, was stationed at the Shanklin Company headquarters of the National Fire Service Fire Force 14d, the requisitioned Gloster Hotel, when it took a direct hit from a 500kg bomb.

Percy was killed alongside eleven of his firefighting colleagues.

Rest in peace Fireman Sheath.
