Fireman Clement William Grant of Ventnor Fire Brigade passed away on 5 May 1966 aged 81.


Clement was born in a cottage, demolished long before his death, sited at Bonchurch Beach and served in Ventnor Fire Brigade for over 40 years, beginning in 1911.

During the First World War he was a saddler-corporal in the Royal Army Service Corps (service no. 198087) and back home he was employed for many years in the post office.

He had married in 1910. In his spare time he was a prolific long distance runner as well as being an active member of Bonchurch Rowing Club. He passed away at Mount Hospital, Eastleigh, the cremation took place in Southampton five days later.
