Fireman Henry Silas Attrill of Ryde Fire Brigade passed away on 23 April 1950.


Henry, born in 1893, was the second son of Henry senior and Amelia of 5 Albert Street, Ryde. He lived in Ryde all his life with the exception of the First World War when he saw active service in France and Belgium with the Royal Engineers, marrying Francis Lily Hicks on home leave on 4 January 1916.

Between the wars he served with Ryde Fire Brigade and became an ARP officer during the second war. For many years he was a well known fitter for Southern Railway.

He passed away on St George's Day at his home 1 Player Street, Ryde, following a long period of ill health. The funeral was held at Holy Trinity three days later and he was interred at Ryde Cemetery.
