Fireman Percy Eli Guy passed away on 11 May 1962 aged 71.

Researching Fireman Guy has been a difficult process as three different P.Guy's were present in fire brigades of the era and two of them were definitely 'Percy's'; many potential ambiguities exist.

What I know for sure is that this Percy was a member of Ventnor Fire Brigade. He was raised in North Street the son of Frank (house painter) and Susan and had two elder brothers, Morris and James. He also joined the Island's territorials in 1908 and served with 'F' Company of the Isle of Wight Rifles during the First World War in Palestine and Egypt where he was seriously wounded.

He served with the brigade for many years before relocating to Lymington and continuing his passion for fire-fighting. He returned to the Island in 1942 after the death of his wife and lived at 34 South Street (presumably Ventnor). He passed away at St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth and was survived by two daughters.

Rest in peace Fireman Guy.
